Vietnam is a huge producer of food crops, with the main products being rice, corn, coffee, sugar, cashew nuts and other valued food crops. As a result it has become a key exporter of crop foods.
However the increased production of food crops had meant an increased demand for fertilizers, importing close to 4m tons of inorganic fertilizer every year since the year 2000.
The use of organic fertilizers has not been as high as it could be, considering the huge amount of organic crop waste that is available as raw material for organic fertilizer.
This has led to the government in Vietnam developing policies and programs to dramatically increase organic fertilizer production to not only meet domestic needs, but to also be a net exporter of organic fertilizers. This will be coupled with new standards for fertilizer QC and QA, ensuring consistent standards across the industry.
Consequently, Vietnam can be seen as a huge growth market for organic fertilizer production in the coming years, supported by government initiatives.
